Nautica 4000

The Nautica

™

4000 is a remote access

server and router that has been built for

small to midsized business and corpo-

rate remote offices supporting telecom-

muting,Internet access,and remote

access. As your network needs change

and grow,the Nautica 4000 offers a

flexible migration path with its cost-

effective modular design. Different cus-

tomers have different requirements and

the Nautica 4000 allows you to create a

configuration mix of analog and digital

dial access and dedicated connections

to meet those requirements.

Each Nautica 4000 can be equipped

with the following transport options

to connect to a local or remote

backbone network:

• Single Integrated Services Digital

Network (ISDN) Basic Rate Inter-

face (BRI) modules with S/T or U

interfaces (maximum of 8).

• ISDN Primary Rate Interface (PRI)

modules. This feature is scheduled

to be available mid-calendar year

1998.

• Serial WAN: X.21,V.24/RS-232,V.35.

This feature is scheduled to be

available mid-calendar year 1998.

• Support for integrated modems

(up to 16 total modems).

• Frame Relay over high-speed serial

interface port for connections up

to 2.044 Mbps.

• Nautica Routing Services

(NauticaRS) software with a com-

prehensive set of standards-based

Internet Protocol (IP) and Internet

Packet Exchange (IPX) features and

services,dial services,and multiple

data compression algorithms.

The Bay Networks Nautica series is

widely recognized in the industry for

its ease of use.Bay Networks NauticaRS

provides an assortment of tools that

simplify configuration and management

tasks. Additionally,the Nautica Configu-

ration Wizard,a Windows 95 compati-

ble application,enhances the setup

procedure by guiding users through

the configuration of the product. All

functions can be managed locally or

remotely using Simple Network Man-

agement Protocol (SNMP),Bay Net-

works Bay Command Console (BCC

™

and Graphical User Interface (GUI) con-

figuration software. NauticaRS supports

a wide range of standards for compres-

sion,bandwidth allocation,and security

to ensure that the remote device has

optimal performance.

Combined with Bay Networks stackable

hubs,switches,and remote access

devices,Nautica 4000 is a cost-effective

and flexible solution for providing

remote office connectivity to the

enterprise network.
